Here's What You Missed on the 89th Academy Awards

Most Emotional Speech
Having won her first Academy Award after three nominations, Viola Davis held a tearful acceptence speech not only thanking her family and the whole cast of Fences but also explained what kinds of characters she loves most to play and what she loves about being an actress.

Most Dramatic Moment
When everyone thinks nothing could possibly happen anymore, a huge mishap makes everyone's jaw drop. The trophies in the major category for Best Picture was mistakenly handed to the wrong cast who had just finished their speeches of thanks before the huge error was rectified on stage. I don't know who could possibly not feel sorry for the cast that had to give away their Oscars that they just thought they had won for their outstanding work on their project, the cast of the film that had actually won but missed their incomparable moment of being announced as the winners, and the two laudators who created the big confusion by reading from a wrong envelope that they were given to read out loud.

Most Surprise Moment
Every year, the Academy Awards surprise us in one way or the other. Who doesn't remember Ellen's Super-Selfie with Hollywood's creme de la creme that became the most retweeted picture of all time, and her ordering pizza for the audience during the ceremony? Well, this year host Jimmy Kimmel surprised unsuspecting tourists from a Hollywood bus tour by making them believe they were just about to visit a dress exhibition when, in reality, they were guided along the whole front row, meeting, greeting and taking pictures with the biggest Hollywood stars on live tv! Tbh, I probably would have fainted, what about you?

Most Successful Films
With 14 nominations La La Land was definitely the film that was predicted to win the most Oscar of the night. In the end it only won six but they are still six Oscars, right?!
Categories won: Best Actress in a Leading Role - Emma Stone; Best Director - Damien Chazelle; Production DesignDavid Wasco, Sandy Reynolds-Wasco; Cinematography - Linus Sandgren; Original Score Justin Hurwitz; Original Song 'City of Stars' Justin Hurwitz, Ben Pasek, Justin Paul

Next in line of most wins with three awards is Moonlight, which I actually was not too keen on watching after seeing the trailer but now that they have won Best Picture, I kind of find myself talking myself into watching it.
Categories won: Best Picture; Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Mahershala Ali; Adapted Screenplay - Barry Jenkins, Tarell Alvin McCraney

At two won Oscars, Hacksaw Ridge and Manchester By the Sea share third place.
Categories won:
MBtS: Best Actor in a Leading Role - Casey Affleck; Original Screenplay - Kenneth Lonergan
H.R.: Sound Mixing - Kevin O'Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie, Peter Grace; Film Editing - John Gilbert

Biggest Political Statement
We have all heard Jimmy Kimmel's occasional joke/critique on the current government of the country. Nevertheless, the biggest statement came from a person who was not even present. And that for a good reason. Iranian director and screenwriter Asghar Farhadi, former Oscar winner, nominated for his film The Salesman in the category Foreign Language Film chose to boycott governmental actions and stay absent from the award show due to the latest happenings regarding Trump's executive order of barring Iranians and citizens of six other countries mainly inhabited by muslims from entering the United States. After the announcement of being the winner in this category, his substitute Anousheh Ansari held his acceptance speech which explained his choice.

Have you watched the Oscars? From where did you watch them? I had to (or chose) stay awake until 6:15 in the morning to be able to see the show from here in Germany! Which ones were your favourite moments, best dressed celebs and top films of the night?
